We are so excited to announce that the construction of the third clinic has finally begun in summer 2020. Planning for this project has been going on for several years. Construction plans were drawn up and submitted to the authorities for approval. However, issuing the official permits proved to be more difficult than expected, hence the start was delayed for some time. However, we are glad to announce that the construction of the new clinic with about 50 beds can finally commence. The reason for this project: After a further increase in patients and patient visits in 2018/2019, it can be assumed that the patient volume will continue to increase in the following years. Therefore the Rezai-Foundation decided an increase in the capacity of the hospital is needed.

When we established the Rezai-Foundation in 2003 it was not yet certain how the project “Medical Aid for Herat / Afghanistan“ should be approached. Only one thing was very clear, “the women and children of Afghanistan must be helped!“
In the following years this vision began to materialize and take shape. The Clinic with gynecology and maternity units opened its doors in Herat in 2009 and has quickly reached capacity with numerous visits from both local women and those from the city’s vast provinces. Hence, it was decided that the clinic should be expanded and construction of the new parts of the complex was completed last year.
With solely the funds of the Rezai-Foundation all this would never have been possible. Only you and your continuous donations have lead to the success of this wonderful project. You and your generosity have contributed to maternal and infant mortality rates steadily decreasing in the region of Herat and have enabled women and children to receive better medical treatment.
Although the conditions in Herat and its provinces have already much improved, we are still far from being able to provide adequate support comparable to what we can offer here in Germany. Three decades of war have devastated and destroyed large parts of the country's medical infrastructure.
Help is still much needed!
The future of the country lies in the hands of women and their children. It is the mothers who provide a stable home for their children and teach them that past mistakes must not be repeated.
